Sulforaphane Natural Detoxification

Sulforaphane Natural Detoxification

When you hear the word “detox,” you might think of a seven-day juice cleanse or a detox tea—but your body actually has its own natural detoxification systems working for you every day.

Your liver and other tissues use specialized enzymes to help process compounds we’re exposed to through our environment, our food, and even normal metabolic processes, so they can ultimately be eliminated from the body.

So, where does sulforaphane come in?

Sulforaphane, a natural plant compound found in broccoli sprouts and in our PurPhane® powder, has been extensively studied for its ability to activate a pathway in our cells called Nrf2.

I like to think of Nrf2 as a switch for some of our cells’ natural protective systems. When activated, Nrf2 helps increase the production of protective proteins, including Phase II detoxification enzymes.

These enzymes help our bodies process certain potentially harmful compounds and prepare them for elimination.

And this isn’t just something researchers have looked at in the lab. In one randomized clinical trial involving nearly 300 people, researchers found that consuming a broccoli sprout beverage containing sulforaphane and its precursor, glucoraphanin, increased the urinary excretion of metabolites of certain airborne pollutants, including benzene and acrolein.

So, when we talk about sulforaphane and detoxification, we’re not talking about a quick cleanse, We’re talking about supporting the natural cellular defence and detoxification pathways your body already has.

And that’s another reason why there continues to be so much exciting research around sulforaphane.
